To be honest, I don’t think I’d ever buy these headphones, even if I owned an iPod Shuffle. It could be because they look a bit dorky, or that it seems a bit hard to control your Shuffle when it’s on your head, or maybe it’s simply that I prefer earbuds rather than those over-the-ear models. But still, I think the iFreePlay cordless Shuffle Headphones are awesome, and they’re definitely another gadget to add to the why didn’t I think of that first category.

09.ipodhead-2.jpgNow, these are cordless, but only because you’re not carrying the Shuffle in your pocket; the Shuffle plugs directly into the top-left earphone.

That’s pretty cool, but it’s not quite as cool when you’ve got to feel around your ear every time you want to pause the song or skip or turn the volume up. Sure, you’ll eventually learn what button on the Shuffle is where in relation to your ear (a vital skill that we should all really know), but it seems like a hassle, especially when you have that handy clip built-in the Shuffle these days which makes exercising with it simple (not that it was hard before.)

The iFreePlay cordless Shuffle Headphones are a pretty cool idea, but I just don’t see how they’re ever practical unless you really, really love the way they look. They’re $50 and work with the 2G Shuffles only, well, you could try the 1G but it might look a bit weird.
