27 August 2007 – The Korean D’ Cube has recently released the new digital audio player – D5. The new D5 comes with two colors, which are white and black. The highlight of this DAP is that it features Klisten’s WiseAudio. It is the audio technique that finds various frequencice threshld features per individual based on PTA (Pure Tune Audiometry) test. With the values, sound will be tuned automatically to the optimized sound environment per each by adapting the DSP technique.

27 August 2007 – China seems to be spawning more and more portable media players these days, with the SmartQ T5 being the latest in a long time. It will come in 2GB and 4GB flavors, supporting a wide range of the most popular file formats such as 640 x 480 resolution in 30fps for XviD and DivX on a 3" display. Too bad the screen supports a maximum resolution of 320 x 240 which makes the previous point irrelevant. Battery life is pretty impressive with video playback clocking up to 7 hours of video.

27 August 2007 – AT&T on Saturday has reportedly threatened legal action against a company that claims to have produced a software-unlock solution for Apple’s iPhone. iphoneunlocking.com, 27.iphone.jpga subsidiary of UniquePhones, promised to deliver the remote software unlocking services for the iPhone at 12 noon EST on Saturday, before it received a call from AT&T’s lawyers early Saturday morning. Unlike recent reports, the company’s software-based unlock solution has not been publicly demonstrated or confirmed. The lawyers, representing the US largest carrier, cited copyright infringement and illegal software dissemination, leading UniquePhones to seek additional legal advice and hold off on offering the unlocking service.

25 August 2007 – Sanyo has debuted the LP-Z2000, a new high-definition LCD projector that offers a 1920×1080 resolution. The projector features a contrast ratio of 15,000:1 and has a light output of 1,200 lumens. It also sports a 2X optical zoo, uses a 165W UHP lamp and a minimum projection distance of 3 meters. Sanyo has built 3D color management technology into the projector, and it offers HDMI 1.3 input with support for DeepColor.25.san_070824_projector.jpg There are also component (RCA), S-Video, and analog inputs. The new projector weighs a hefty 7.3 kilograms, and is about .4 meters wide. The LP-Z2000 carries an estimated ship date of November 1st, and will be priced at 378,000 Yen, or about $3,200.

25.rim_070824_blackberry.jpg25 August 2007 – RIMM is developing a technology that will allow its Blackberry smartphones to transfer files wirelessly between the device and a PC which works like the company’s BlackBerry Enterprise Server, according to one industry analyst. Gus Papageorgiou of Scotia Capital believes anyone who has an MP3 player and a mobile phone is a target for the new service, requiring that BlackBerry users install software on a PC to gain access to RIM’s network operating center. That center provides a link to the BlackBerry itself, according to the analyst, and would allow users to organize digital media in a way similar to Apple’s iTunes software.

24.onkyo_logo.jpg24 August 2007 – Onkyo’s new mid-range TX-SR605 7.1-channel AV receiver, retailing at around £400, has been voted the best home theatre receiver of the year by the EISA committee of European consumer electronics magazine editors.

The receiver is the "world’s first" to incorporate on-board decoding of next-gen HD audio formats, which is why it was singled out to win the award.

24 August 2007 – This is what we can take from the results of a joint survey released this week:

"UK consumers now spend 50 hours per week on the phone, surfing the internet, watching television or listening to the radio," said Ofcom in a statement. "Average daily internet use in 2006 (36 minutes) was up 158% on 2002 and time spent on the mobile phone (almost 4 minutes per day) was up 58%. Time spent watching TV was down 4% at 3 hours and 36 minutes, listening to radio was down 2% at 2 hours and 50 minutes and time spent on a fixed line phone was down 8% at 7 minutes."

Backing this up IBM also noticed an interesting trend, "The global findings overwhelmingly suggest personal Internet time rivals TV time. Among consumer respondents, 19 percent stated spending six hours or more per day on personal Internet usage, versus nine percent of respondents who reported the same levels of TV viewing. 66 percent reported viewing between one to four hours of TV per day, versus 60 percent who reported the same levels of personal Internet usage. "
