The Polymer Audio Research Polymer Logic Loudspeakers use one of the diamond cone midrange drivers (pictured above) per side in addition to a Supravox TG1 tweeter and a pair of hand made vapor deposited titanium cone woofers.

Polymer Research states that, "The diamond midrange cone in the Polymer Logic currently exists in only one commercially available loudspeaker system, the $250,000/pr Marten Design Coltrane Supreme." And don’t think for a second that tweeter has gold paint on it, that is a titanium dome covered in a pure layer of solid gold.

So, we’ve been seeing a growing number of PMPs that take design inspiration from cellphones. Not all of them are complete rip-offs, though, as some only imitate the distinctive parts. Well, the YHM-MPE02 from Yahee Technologies (which seems to have a thing for Nokia products) just joined that club, as it sports a look seen previously on Nokia’s Xpress Music 5300. Interestingly, it may also have a USB 2.0 plug built-in, as seen in the product image.

Roth has released details on their new OLi line of speakers. The OLi line includes two different bookshelf speakers and a floorstanding model.

OLi1 (2-Way 4" Bookshelf Loudspeaker)

This entry level model brings an incredible level of fit and finish for its modest price tag, featuring luxurious black lacquer highlights, and an elegantly curving cabinet. This two-way design, bookshelf style unit measures a modest 20cm in height, yet handles up to 100 watts of power.

Up and running – whether it’s the entry-level bookshelf, the OLi centre ground, or the range topping tower – the OLi range speakers are by no means sonic wallflowers: a combination of super-solid cabinets – including the OLi3’s DALtech damping – and imperiously designed drivers, plus internal components mean the OLi speakers sound just as good as they look.

iRiver is readying a Linux-based media recorder/player comprised of a detachable mobile unit and tethered docking station. The Unit2’s base station offers a DVD/CD player, TV tuner, and PC-style I/O, while the detachable display features a 7-inch WVGA (800×480) touchscreen, WiFi, and USB.

Apparently, the idea is to use the docking station to record DVDs, music CDs, or TV content onto the portable unit, which can then be carried with the user. The portable unit presumably recharges when plugged into the unit, and reportedly connects to the unit via WiFi, offering voice- and video-over-IP phone features as well as media playback capabilities.

30.sco.jpgScotland will begin the switch to digital television on November 6 next year, it has been announced by Digital UK, the body leading the process.

On that date, the Scottish Borders will become the first area in Scotland – and the second in the UK after Whitehaven in Cumbria – to switch entirely to digital TV.

Analogue TV signals will be turned off from the Selkirk group of transmitters and replaced with a stronger digital signal.

The next switchovers after that will be in the second quarter of 2009, when large parts of the Border and Westcountry TV regions convert.

Television viewers across Scotland are being urged to get set for the change through a national campaign while over the coming weeks, every home in Scotland will be sent information explaining that switchover is a rolling process, carried out by TV transmitter.
