A deal of monumental proportions has been struck between 3 of the largest consumer electronics manufacturers in the world.

Hitachi, Panasonic, and Canon have confirmed a deal that will give each company access to some of the technologies utilized by the others.

Canon will now have access to Hitachi’s medium-sized LCDs and OLED displays for their own use, while Panasonic will now be able to use Hitachi’s IPS (In-Plane Switching) and OLED technology.

What does Hitachi get out of this deal?

Panasonic and Canon have purchased 24.9% of Hitachi, who will use this infusion of capitol to further advance their LCD technology.

Presumably Canon and Panasonic will also have some claim to these LCD advancements when they occur.
