CES 2008: Maxell intros new 5.1 Digital Sound Bar for virtual surround sound

While it may not satisfy true audiophiles, Maxell’s new 5.1 Digital Sound Bar could be a boon where space is at a premium, you don’t want wires trailing around your walls for dedicated surround speakers, or fiddle with the intricacies of getting wireless surround sound to work effectively.

Featuring a main sound bar unit and an extra subwoofer, Maxell’s solution provides virtual surround sound and has built-in Dolby Digital and DTS decoders.

The release doesn’t give much more info away about exact specs, so check out their web site for more info in due course. It has a suggested price tag of US$599 and comes in either wood or aluminium composite finishes.
