Sony Debuts MDR-NC500D HeadphonesSony MDR-NC500D Headphones Sony has announced the availability of its latest headphones, named MDR-NC500D in the Japanese market. Sony claims that the headphones have the ability to cancel about 99 percent of the ambient noise and offer high-quality sound, giving users a great music-listening experience. The powerful headphones utilize digital technology that has the ability to automatically generate waves that move in the opposite direction to noise waves. The Panasonic DMP-BD30 is the world’s first Profile 1.1 Blu-ray player.

Panasonic DMP-BD30 1.1 Blu-Ray Player

A certain amount of deserved fanfare is in order, as some of you will be aware that the BD market has been cursed by dithering standards.

Profile 1.1 (also amusingly know as the Final Standards profile – which it isn’t) mandates for persistent memory and a second video decoder, allowing for the provision of Picture-in-Picture functionality, aka Bonus View.

Sometime later in 2008, we’ll see the first dedicated BD players compliant with Profile 2.0, which throws a LAN port into the mix, letting the unit go online for greater interactivity.

New Blu-ray special features

Even Bonus View PIP discs are few and far between. The first in the UK is Sony Pictures’ Resident Evil: Extinction. Select its Under the Umbrella special feature and you can watch the film plus a secondary video window featuring talking-head commentary, behind-the-scenes material and storyboards.

Disney will be releasing its first Profile 1.1 disc in the summer, National Treasure: Book of Secrets. In the US, Sunshine has also been issued as a Region-locked PIP disc.

A different proposition to the first models from Panasonic, the Panasonic DMP-BD30’s form factor itself has been much improved. The player is super-slim, standing just 59mm tall. Ergonomics are a bit bonkers, though.

Nike Unveils iPod-Less Nike+ SportBand

Nike recently unveiled the Nike+ SportBand, confirming earlier reports that the company would release a “sans iPod” version of its fitness tracking system. According to MacLife, the SportBand functions similarly to the iPod combination set, where it can measure time, speed, distance, and calories consumed. The system supposedly writes this information to a USB memory stick for upload to a computer. Nike will sell the SportBand for €60 (~$95), and will ship in April.

Nike is reportedly not abandoning the Nike+iPod sports system, merely offering a less expensive alternative for users who can’t afford an iPod nano.

Late last year, Nike and Apple were both under scrutiny for allegedly violating a patent, involving custom footwear that tracks the wearer’s performance. Recently, Samsung announced a joint venture with Adidas with the goal of taking on the Nike+iPod system

Meridian MF10 High-Definition Video Projector

The name Meridian speaks of exquisite engineering and elegant style. The company has already impressed us with the $20,000 DVD player, Ferrari F80 audio system, and lately the DSP7200 loudspeakers. The latest product to carry the brand’s legacy forth is the high-definition video projector, the MF10. Inspired from the award-winning MF1, the new MF10 video projector utilizes the latest-generation D-ILA light-engine technology, in a maximum performance three-chip 1080p array. Based on an all-new 0.7-inch DILA device, the MF10’s advanced optical package makes for a significant reduction in stray light and thereby delivering great black levels, in excess of 30,000:1 native contrast ratio, without the use of a servo iris. The upshot is film-like textures and depth, and a terrific cinematic visual experience. Another feather to the wings is the projector’s outstandingly accurate, 16-element, all-glass lens that guarantees sharp, fully-focused imaging across the entire screen, edge to edge and top to bottom.

The 2x zoom throws a large, bright image and deliver image size from 60 to 200 inches. The MF10’s ‘pixel-for-pixel’ unprocessed mode is custom made to work in parallel with Meridian’s newest digital video processor, the DVP2351. Meridian is offering the D-ILA MF10 Digital Projector for $14,995 while the DVP2351 Digital Video processor will be sold separately for $3,995.

KEF Stringless Pleasure

In celebration of the first decade of Hong Kong’s reunification with China, the Hong Kong Design Center organized “Project 9707″ to recognize Hong Kong’s local design industry and support design education. “Creation 9707″ (part of the larger project 9707) is a collaboration of ten internationally renowned brand names with ten accomplished Hong Kong designers to produce ten creative products. KEF’s Stringless Pleasure is one of these ten. Developed in collaboration with Italian furniture brand Giorgetti and designer and architect Lo Chi Wing, Stringless Pleasure is an instrument without strings.

It is equipped with two concentric driver speakers, a subwoofer, CD player and built-in iPod dock. The cabinetry is made from Zitan, a rare species of wood used for musical instruments in ancient China, and the control dials are made from precious stones. The ten-decimeter long sound-bridge commemorates the ten years. Only ten Stringless Pleasures will be available worldwide.

Inngenio 6000

We’ve pegged Energy Sistem as possibly a major player in the PMP industry in the near feature and we are absolutely correct. A successor of the 5000, the Inngenio 6000 is a wholly different multimedia animal with a 2.8-inch touchscreen and a shiny steel casing. It does not have WiFi and no Bluetooth but with a 89.90 euro ($138) MSRP (includes a 36-month guarantee), you can have a fashionable touchscreen media player that you can brag about.

Archos 606

The Archos 606 may see the first implementation of SFR’s 3G+ plans for Archos players. The 606 will be the successor of the 605 and will boast the same casing dimensions with 1 to 2 centimeters of screen space added. It’s all black as well and this artist’s impression of the device, if I may say so, not bad looking at all. It’s even prettier than this iPhone2 mockup that we thought would look better with an Archos branding.

Archos 606 will have 30GB of storage. Hopefully it’s not a bad idea for Archos to skip current advances in flash storage. Should it be enough for SFR’s 3G+ plans, here are the possible prices: €14.90, €19.90, and €29.90 a month ($22 to $46), each of which will let you purchase the device for €249, €199, or €149 ($380, $305, or $230), respectively, or you can simply the player without a plan for €290, or about $460.
