04-wirelesshd.jpgWireless HD, or ‘WiHD’ as it is also known, is yet another - though potentially the - cable eliminating standard such as Wireless USB which should now slowly start appearing in our living rooms.

This is because today the WirelessHD association formally completed the development of its High Definition video and audio streaming technology and plans to present the format to adopters in early Q1.

Despite technologies such as Wireless HDMI already starting to make an appearance, WirelessHD (first announced in October 2006) could offer a far more sophisticated alternative since whereas the former plugs base stations into the HDMI ports of each device which then communicate wirelessly, WirelessHD can be built directly into products themselves.

Furthermore, since it is a fixed standard, all WirelessHD products can work together using a single universal remote control.

"With the completion of the WirelessHD specification, consumer electronics manufacturers can focus on their WirelessHD-based product development efforts," said John Marshall, Chairman of WirelessHD. "This important industry initiative will change the way manufacturers develop and market devices, as well as reshape how consumers interface with these products."

Co-formed by Intel, LG, Matsushita (Panasonic), NEC, Samsung, Sony and Toshiba (what a collection of heavyweights!) and also with the full backing of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), WirelessHD looks set to become the formal cable free format of our dreams.

Now if only you hadn’t just channelled your living room walls setting up that Santa sent projector…
