Toshiba has just announced a recall for portable DVD power adapters. A voluntary recall affecting 142,000 AC adapters that were sold between January 2005 and April 2006.
The affected adapters are model number ADPV16 and were sold with the SD-P1600 portable DVD player. So far Toshiba has had just two reports of minor damage to the bottom of the DVD player. While this is a voluntary recall, Toshiba strongly recommends that you contact their Customer Solutions center and arrange for a replacement to be sent out.

Although rear projection television (RPTV) sets have been facing stiff price pressure from flat panel plasma and LCD sets, RPTV is still popular among those who want large screens at affordable prices. And in the rear projection marketplace, one technology stands out, winning both first and third place in JD Power and Associates’ recent HDTV owner satisfaction study: that’s DLP (Digital Light Projection) from Texas Instruments.
At CEDIA Expo in Denver last month, and again at the "Holiday Spectacular" press event in New York, DLP was on-hand showing off advanced 3D capabilities that are already available in current production model DLP rear projection sets. If you buy (or already own) 3D-compatible DLP sets from Samsung or Mitsubishi, you can add an inexpensive third party software/glasses package (starting at $199), plug in your PC and enjoy a growing library of content in 3D.

Vizio, the video company that turned Costco and Wal-Mart into home theater shops, has sold its two-millionth television, the company tells AVRev.com. Their first set was sold on September of 2003 and the two-millionth was sold in August of 2007. The vast majority of the sets sold by Vizio have been HDTVs.
Vizio, one of the few video companies based in the United States and powered by new distribution channels such as big-box retailer Circuit City, is expecting to break the 3,000,000 set mark before the end of the 2007 holiday season.

Losing your TV’s remote control down the back of your sofa could soon become a thing of the past. JVC has its sights on replacing traditional TV operation with hand movements and sounds.
At last week’s Ceatec technology show in Japan, the company demonstrated a TV operated by hand claps and gestures. A microphone is concealed in the TV’s top to "collect" the various claps, and it recognises a user’s commands based on the number of claps made and the timing between them. A video camera is also built into the top of the TV, which recognises a user’s non-audible hand movements.
For example, clapping your hands twice while watching TV will cause volume and channel icons to appear on the screen. Icons then turn red in succession and users select them with a clap or by making pre-defined movements recognised by the camera.

It seems that some people are actually still using SACD, a type of CD which, thanks to a bunch of urban myths, is said to give an impeccable sound quality on CD.
Anyway, this may be your chance to actually get to try and verify if this is true, (because despite trying hard I never ever got my hands on an SACD), with the Pioneer PD-D9 which can play both as I just said, but also MP3 and WMA.

If you’re looking for a PMP with e-dictionary functionalities, you certainly know that Korea is (again) the way to go, this time with Sharp (even though that one is Japanese), and their brand new SP700.
The SP700 is running Windows CE 5.0, brings in 30GB of memory, plays the DivX or XviD because they know you love compressed videos, but also MPEG1/4 and WMV, BMD TV tuner… Again, a good all-around product.
