Mp3 & Mp4 Players

Inovix IMP-11

Allan Ford June 19, 2007

The cheapest MP3 player on test at just £14.99 for 1GB of space, you'll also find a few handy little extra features here that just add to its appeal. It's a fairly bulky device, and the rather small screen and subsequently small text can be difficult to read. This is made worse initially due to the constantly changing backlight colour that shifts from garish red to green, purple and worse as you scroll through the menus.

Our first mission was to find out how to disable this, and luckily we just made it there before the first signs of a migraine started kicking in. Additional features include a selection of repeat functions, an equalizer with presets and a voice recorder. Bizarrely there's also an application to store and recall contact details and telephone numbers which can be uploaded to the player for use on the move.

The controls are pretty straightforward, with a lever arm for moving through menus and separate volume control. It's actually a pretty loud player as well, and doesn't distort or degrade at high volumes so it should be fine for use on the move. Despite being rather frustrating to navigate and use, you can't argue with the price tag and the extra features do help make up for its drawbacks somewhat.

The good: It's cheap, handful of useful extra features, it's cheap, includes a voice recorder, it's cheap.
The bad: Frustrating to navigate and use, poor display, a bit bulky
The ugly truth: Despite cramming some potentially useful extra features in the display is quite poor and it's a bit awkward to use, but can you complain at this price?
