New Adam Audio Tensor Speakers

Allan Ford October 6, 2007

The new Tensor line from Germany’s Adam Audio consists of three floor standing speakers featuring their HexaCone woofers, ART (advanced ribbon technology) folded ribbon midranges, and extended range ART folded ribbon tweeters. Adam Audio claims the ART tweeters provide more open and natural highs with better dispersion than conventional ribbon or dome tweeters. The baby of the range is the 79lb. Gamma ($8199), which stands 43.3" high and utilizes a single X-ART tweeter, ART midrange, and two 8" HexaCone woofers powered by individual 100 watt amplifiers mounted in a frontrear bipolar configuration.

The Beta ($14,999) weighs 170lbs. and stands 50.4" high. The upper section is decoupled from the bass section with sand bags, and uses an X-ART tweeter, ART midrange, and a 7" HexaCone mid-bass driver. Two 11" HexaCone woofers driven by individual 200 watt amplifiers are mounted in a frontrear bipolar configuration in the bass section. The flagship Alpha ($24,999) weighs in at a hefty 337lbs. and stands 66.9" tall. Its upper section uses an X-ART tweeter, two ART midranges, and two 8" HexaCone midbass drivers in a symmetrical array. The bass section utilizes two 12" HexaCone woofers with 100mm voice coils powered by individual 500 watt amplifiers, mounted in the same bipolar configuration as the rest of the range. Each model is also available in a fully active version.
