NEWS: New Horizons for Boston Acoustics

Allan Ford December 24, 2007

25-bostona-hs-460-chili.jpgBoston Acoustics is making a strong pitch for the 21st century, style-conscious consumer with its new range of speakers, the Horizon Series.

The innovative new speakers use curved self-damping ABS plastic cabinets, built into an unusual shape that marks a welcome departure from the straightforward box shape of most hi-fi speakers.

The HS-460s (left) cost £669, and feature two 16.5cn mid-bass drivers as well as two 18cm passive radiators situated lower in the front baffle.

Boston Acoustics is clearly aiming to impress the interior design crowd as well as the sonically obsessed: it’s offering a ‘Personal Option Plan’ which – as opposed to the pension deal it sounds like – will allow you to customise the Horizon speakers using a choice of eight coloured speaker grilles.

25-bostona-hs-460-chili-2.jpgThe elaborately-named colours are: Glacier, Rosebud, Onyx, Pearl Grey, Caramel, Chocolat, Silver and Chili Pepper.

The slightly smaller – and more affordable – HS-450s (left) cost £469, and use 13.5cm mid-bass drivers, together with a pair of 16.5cm passive radiators as well as a 25mm Kortec soft dome tweeter.
