Kohler And Polk Audio Develop The SoundTile Speaker

Allan Ford May 29, 2007

10.kohler.jpgAudio manufacturer Polk Audio announced that the Kohler Co. has
released an in-shower loudspeaker developed in conjunction with Polk
Audio for in-shower use called the SoundTile. With the new KOHLER
SoundTile, introduced at the 2007 Kitchen/Bath Industry Show, you can
be sure not to miss a beat of your favorite song because quality audio
streams directly into your showering space.

Incorporating audio into the showering routine is a natural progression
of the experience and made easy with the KOHLER SoundTile. The
high-fidelity SoundTile shower speakers are designed to match the
shape, profile and finish of the iconic WaterTile bodysprays and
showerheads. Kohler engineered these speakers in close cooperation with
Polk Audio, an award-winning designer and manufacturer of
high-performance audio products. “The know-how and experience of the
Polk team in marine-grade speakers was instrumental in developing the
SoundTile,” says Keith Kometer, director of product marketing for
Kohler Global Faucets. “Bringing together seasoned plumbing and audio
professionals resulted in the creation of a best-in-class shower
speaker that sets a new standard in the industry.”

The SoundTile speakers are marine certified, coaxial speakers in a
4-by-4 inch escutcheon. The stainless steel front grill substantially
abates water from entering the speaker area while not impeding sound
quality, and a hole on the lower side of the escutcheon allows water to
drain into the showering area. The SoundTile speakers are available in
pairs in a variety of quality KOHLER finishes to match the design
sophistication and aesthetics of the KOHLER WaterTile body sprays. The
footprint of the SoundTile is identical to the WaterTile bodyspray’s.

To make the sound come to life, the SoundTile speakers can be
controlled by Kohler’s new DTV II or any stand-alone home audio system.
The new KOHLER DTV II is a complete digital hydrotherapy system
consisting of a digital valve and interface as well as a media module
that allows operation of audio, light and steam. The DTV II controls
music, ambient lighting, chromatherapy and steam to provide the bather
with a complete sensory experience in the shower, all operated by a
sleek, intuitive digital interface.

The KOHLER SoundTile speakers will be distributed through authorized
Kohler distributors, dealers and retailers. They are available in May
2007 starting at an Manufacturer suggested retail price of $295.00 per
pair, depending on finish.
