XtremeMAC HDMI and AV Connection Solutions review

Allan Ford July 3, 2007

03.xtremehdtopview250-1.jpgIf you have components with HDMI connections, you have found that cables and additional accessories are very expensive. XtremeMAC's HDMI cables and HDMI Switcher are excellent performers at prices lower than several other brands. XtremeMAC's HDMI cable solutions and Switcher are definitely worth considering with their easy grip design, good construction, and signal strength that is required in home theater applications.

After reading this review, check out a closer look at, and explanation of, the XtremeHD connection cable products at my XtremeHD Connections Photo Gallery
Manufacturer's Site

Pros
* Well-constructed
* Great performance
* Easy to use
* Excellent price point
* Toslink cable comes with 3.5mm digital connection adapter

Guide Review – XtremeMAC HDMI and AV Connection Solutions – Review
I recently tested several HDMI and Audio/Video connection solutions from XtremeMAC.

HDMI-related products tested included: HDMI cables, HDMI/DVI adapter cable, and 4 input/1 output HDMI switcher.

The HDMI cables and switcher were well constructed. The cables fit well and were very flexible. In comparison with both budget and high-end cables, the XtremeMAC cables and switcher proved their worth in signal strength, flexibility, and fit.

I found that in all cases, the cables and switcher provided a good fit and performed as advertised. I also found the cable ends very easy to grip.

The HDMI Switcher was also easy to use. It also included both a wireless remote that made switching between four sources and an HDTV very easy. The four HDMI input sources can also be accessed by a front panel Source button. One complaint is that the switcher itself is rather large, compared to other HDMI switchers that I have used.

In addition, I also had a chance to test other XtremeMAC cables, including Digital Optical (Toslink), Stereo Analog Audio, and Component Video Cables.

These cables worked well and were also easy to grip for plugging and unplugging. In addition, the Toslink cable was packaged with a 3.5mm adapter connection that allows the cable to be used with components that have 3.5mm digital audio connections, rather than the traditional option connection plug.

The only complaints:

1. The HDMI switcher was physically larger than I have seen, and, perhaps, larger than necessary.

2. The cables are only available in two lengths (2 meters/13.2 meters), with the HDMI/DVI cable and Analog Stereo cables only available in the 2 meter length.

For home theater setups, I found that XtremeMAC's HDMI and Audio/Video connection solutions provided excellent performance and excellent, informative, packaging at a lower price than many high-end brands.
