Intempo gets first dibs on DAB iPod docking station

Allan Ford August 15, 2007

16 August 2007 – We thought the iPod accessory market was already bursting, but apparently the one thing it’s been missing is a DAB digital radio iPod docking station. Intempo claims to have developed the industry’s first such device, incorporating dual band DAB digital and FM radio into a sleek black unit.

Intempo’s RDI-03 iPod docking station offers 30 watts output, including a built-in subwoofer capable of pumping out 12 watts of raw musical power. Some aspects of the player are still being developed though, such as the accompanying remote control, but an Intempo representative told us that it is likely to have 19 keys and perform many of the unit’s functions, when the box ships in October.

The player is compatible with all iPod models, as well as other MP3 players on the market, for those not totally wedded to the Apple range. In addition to pumping out your favourite tracks, the docking station will also charge your player as you rock out – assuming it’s not an iPod Nano.

Alarm, sleep and snooze functions also mean the station can wake you up in the morning to the sounds of, say, Chris Moyles and then help you save a few bucks on your electricity if you unexpectedly nod-off during The Archers.

Intempo’s RDI-03 will retail through Dixons, Currys.digital, Comet and Amazon from the end of October, priced at around £99 (€140)
