Nordost Odin interconnect and speaker cable

Allan Ford June 26, 2007

Hold onto your hats people, because before you need to know anything else about Nordost's latest ranges of high-end AV cables you need to know the prices. Sitting down? Good, because for a one-metre pair the Odin Interconnect will set you back a cool £10,000, while the Odin Speaker a pocket-friendly £12,500. Cripes.26.odin-interconect-cable-sm.jpg

So where the hell does all the cash go? Taking over the mantle of Valhalla, Nordost's previous flagship cable system, Odin promises to deliver 'remarkable clarity and astonishing levels of speed and transparency' using Nordost's proprietary Dual Micro Mono-Filament technology. The Speaker Cable is flat and incorporates 245 separate conductors made of solid-core oxygen-free copper with an extruded silver surface laid out linearly and evenly spaced into four groups – two positive, two negative. The Interconnect Cable is tubular rather than flat, with eight silver-plated oxygen-free copper conductors individually shielded and each linked in a flat ring formation.

The kind of technology incorporated into these two cable systems is clearly not aimed at your common or average street user spinning discs on a £50 supermarket machine. If however you are an audio and videophile who demands nothing but the absolute best from your equipment, the gospel of the importance of good cabling may just steer you in Nordost's direction. Best prep the wallet first though.
