Yamaha RX-V359B review

Allan Ford September 9, 2007

Digital Home Theatre Receiver
The RX-V359B is a high performance receiver offering excellent value and many desirable features including CINEMA DSP, SILENT CINEMA, realistic surround programmes and three component video inputs.

Powerful surround sound

The RX-V359B delivers high power output to each of its five channels (100W x 5, 6 ohms, 1 kHz, 0.9% THD) providing more than enough power to fill even the largest rooms with vibrant music and rich sound effects.

High performance 192kHz/24-bit D/A converters perform accurate sound field reproduction for high quality multi-channel sources and also provide outstanding separation and precise musical delineation fro two-channel stereo; delivering superior low level linearity with excellent full-scale performance.

The RX-V359B is also capable of delivering large amounts of reserve power for accurate reproduction of the high energy peaks that are 10.yamaha_rxv359b-2.jpgespecially prevalent in digital audio sources; emphasising the music’s dynamic qualities and providing a sharper sound image.

You also have a choice of seven unique Yamaha DSP surround programmes to bring out the full audio potential of your entertainment sources, including four CINEMA DSP programmes for video sources and three HiFi DSP programmes for music.

Flexible connections
The two optical and one coaxial digital input terminals on the RX-V359B let you connect high quality digital devices such as a DVD player or certain cable or satellite boxes. The receiver also offers terminals (digital inputs and component video inputs) that can be either independently assigned to sources or defaulted to fixed settings

The RX-V359B is HDTV compatible and also features three component video inputs instead of the usual one or two, allowing you to use three different sources without having to change connections.

Convenient functions
The RX-V359B offers a range of convenient functions. The remote control is preset with control codes for your TV, DVD, VCR and other components.

Speaker A or B Selection gives you the advantage of listening to either of two pairs of speakers. If you like watching movies late at night, Night Listening Mode enables you to turn down the volume without sacrificing tonal balance and dynamic range. SILENT CINEMA mode allows private listening enjoyment of multi-channel music or movies, with an accurate simulation of surround sound, through ordinary headphones.

Other notable features:

* Wide-range audio frequency response for DVD-Audio/Super Audio CD compatibility
* Analogue mixdown
* Virtual CINEMA DSP
* Sleep timer
* 40-station preset tuning
* Auto preset tuning
